2010 ABOI Applications Due by October 15, 2009

If you are planning on applying to become a Diplomate in 2010, applications are due
by October 15, 2009.

For the Part II Application, your application and case listing sheet are due by October 15, 2009

Your cases in electronic format are due by January 15, 2010.

Here is how examinations are administered and what to expect:

The Part I Examination is a written examination consisting of 250 multiple choice questions; the examination is given in two parts, morning and afternoon sessions. Candidates are given 3 hours for each section. Candidates are not allowed to bring any electronic devices, bags or other extraneous items into the examination room.

The Part II Examination consists of two components: preset scenarios and submitted cases completed by the candidates.

The first component consists of candidates rotating through a series of stations with pre-set cases in which you will be questioned about by two examiners. You will be given time to review the cases prior to the examination in a secure area.

The second component is where you (the candidate) will defend the cases you submitted to the ABOI. Examiners will review your cases prior to the examination and choose 3-4 cases that you will defend. No prior notice will be given as to which cases are chosen.

If you applied over two years ago, and are planning on taking the Part II Examination, the guidelines and format have changed, please go to http://www.aboi.org/ and review the Part II Application and the Candidate Handbook.

If you have any questions, please contact the ABOI Headquarters.

Tribute to Dr. Jerry Soderstrom

Dear ABOI Diplomates,

It is with deep regret that I advise you of the passing of Dr. Jerry Soderstrom. Dr. Soderstrom had cancer and was truly a fighter; he fought the battle for as long as he could. He will truly be missed.

For those of you that knew Dr. Soderstrom, this is most certainly sad news.

For those of you that did not know Dr. Soderstrom, he was described recently as someone who will be remembered by implant dentists worldwide as the ABOI and AAID’s foremost clinician and scholar.

Dr. Soderstrom was a past president of the ABOI and worked tirelessly for the ABOI. He was greatly responsible for the ABOI certification examination as we know it today. He was a very humble, honest, hard working man who offered his expertise freely.

To quote H. Dexter Barber, DDS, Treasurer of the ABOI, “Implant dentistry has suffered a great loss, but more importantly we have lost a great man and a great friend.”

The other reality of the situation is that Dr. Soderstrom was unable to work during his illness, and the financial strain has truly affected his family.

Many individuals that know the Soderstrom family would like to reach out to you and ask if there is any way you can help.

There are currently three ways in which you can help if you can:

Spread the word amongst your colleagues or residents that may be looking to buy an implant practice so that they can evaluate the potential and consider transitioning into the practice

Financial contributions can be made to:
